Auction Ads Review: Auction Ads Wins Ugliest Ads Award!

Posted by | General | One Comment

Auction Ads look like shit! Are you tired of being paid per click from your adsense ads? It seems too simple to just place targeted adsense ads and direct people away from you site for pennies, maybe nickels in return. Isn’t it better to display seemingly untargeted product ads that require a user to click, sign up and fulfill an action like winning an eBay auction? It’s a far better idea right? Not!

I’m not sure if it’s just the market reach Shoemoney already has with his blog but he’s been pushing Auction Ads like crazy. Just earlier today I received an email from John Reese promoting Auction Ads even further with his company income.com. John calls Auction Ads “The Next Google Adsense”. He is offering people who sign up (through his affiliate link I presume) $5 free. This first made me think, why is John Reese of all people promoting Auction Ads? At first I thought, maybe Shoemoney paid him 20k, but then I realized John is probably marketing through his affiliate link in hopes to gather a hefty amount of people under him because Auction Ads works on a 2 tier system. Anyone you refer will be placed under you and so on. My surprise is that he has that much faith in auction ads that he is giving away $5 free to everyone who signs up.

Now Shoemoney has a great reason for setting up Auction Ads,, he wants to be eBay’s #1 affiliate. Everyone that signs up for Auction Ads is essentially under him so he makes even more by you signing up. It’s a great idea but what about the service? What are you exactly getting by signing up for Auction Ads? Well, Auction Ads can offer you a higher percentage from each sale because I believe essentially you are promoting eBay through Shoemoney’s affiliate link, ie. you refer a sign up and because your using his ID then you’re able to receive his commission because he is already in some of the top tiers if not the highest already. Right now they are offering you 100% of the commission but later down the road say 6 months as mentioned on a broadcast of Rush Hour on webmaster radio Shoe will begin collecting %’s of each of your referrals. A brokers free is fine since they are making it easier for you to make money. How much money I don’t know but the ads don’t impress me one bit.

After visiting Shoe’s blog and surfing through to one of the blogs he reads I actually found someone promoting eBay auctions via Auction Ads. I took the screenshot to your left so you can see just in case he changes his site (or takes them down cause he isn’t making any money). They look absolutely horrible in my opinion. What’s with the resized (misshaped) images? What readers of cpa-affiliates.com would see those ads, click on them and win an ebay auction? To me his blog isn’t the right place for those types of ads. They are better off on a crappy price comparison site, or MFA. I know you can customize the colors of your Auction Ads like you can adsense but I’m not sure about the photos. Those images being resized like that kills me. They look bad.

So did you sign up yet? Are you going to clutter up your site even more with ugly auction listings? I don’t think I’ll be signing up.

Mybloglog tracking all your clicks, traffic, what else?

Posted by | Uncategorized | One Comment

So you’ve seen what looks like everyone and their brother using Mybloglog’s nifty little widgets on their blogs displaying the last visitors along with photos. When I first saw this I thought, hmmm, that’s interesting, another company has jumped onto the blog tool/widget train to gather as many backlinks as possible from all of it’s users. I’m skeptical of anyone giving away widgets for free or anything for that matter. So as much as I was tempted to add a Mybloglog box to my site I held back… And good thing I did. After reading Shoemoney’s blog post as well as Jensense you can see why running mybloglog on your blog or site isn’t a good idea. They seem to be tracking not only your visitors (where they came from/where they go) they are also tracking your ad clicks on adsense and ypn.

Great adsense tips to help you increase revenue

Posted by | Uncategorized | No Comments

Most adsense publishers are looking to increase their ad revenue and here are a few great tips on doing just that. This is what Ivan, a UK based adsense optimizer had to say when asked by Google:

What are the top 3 tips you like to tell publishers?

1. Use wide ad formats. Many publishers find the 728×90 Leaderboard outperforms the 468×60 banner by about 70%. I particularly recommend using the 728×90 Leaderboard, 160×600 Wide Skyscraper, and 300×250 Medium Rectangle.

2. Embed Google ads in your content, and place Google ads at the end of your articles, news stories and reviews. Placing a 468×60 Banner in the typical slot at the top of page, or a 120×600 Skyscraper along the right-hand side of page, work well for cost-per-thousand impressions (CPM) ads. However, for cost-per-click (CPC) contextual advertising, AdSense tends to work best when integrated with your content.

3. Blend your ad colours into your website. After running a test with a bright pink 728×90 Leaderboard on a black background, I learned that complementary colours often work better. Try blending the background and borders of your ads into your site, and use a text colour that stands out but already exists on your site. Blending decreases ad blindness and users are more likely to notice ads that interest them.

Click-to-Play Video Ads

Posted by | Uncategorized | No Comments

Google recently launched click-to-play video ads, a new ad format for sites in the AdSense network. Video ads may appear on your site if you’re opted into image ads for one of the three ad formats that support video ads: the Medium Rectangle (300 X 250), Large Rectangle (336 X 280), and Square (250 X 250).

When a video ad is served to a page, it will be displayed as a static opening image. Once the user clicks the play button or the opening image, the video will begin playing within the ad space. If the user clicks the display URL at the bottom of the ad, or clicks the ad while it’s playing, the user will automatically be taken to the advertiser’s website. Users can control the volume and can replay the video if they choose; the video will not automatically replay.

You can choose whether to enable or disable video ads from appearing on your pages.

How do I enable my pages to show Click-to-Play video ads?

If you’d like to display video ads, please ensure that you’re using one of the three supported video ad formats on your site and that you are opted in to image ads for that specific ad unit.Note that as there is currently limited video ad inventory, you may not notice any ads on your site for some time. As our inventory grows, you may begin to see video ads appear on your pages. In the meantime, we recommend opting in to both text and image ads for your ads units to ensure you’re getting the ads that represent the maximum revenue potential for you.

How do I prevent Click-to-Play video ads from appearing on my pages?

If you’d prefer not to display video ads on your site, there are a couple options available to you:

  • You can use your Competitive Ad Filter to block video ads from an individual advertiser.
  • You can opt out of image ads for the three ad formats that support video ads: Medium Rectangle, Large Rectangle, and Square.

Will You earn more with Click-to-Play video ads?

As with text and image ads, Google can’t make any guarantees about the amount you’ll earn from video ads. However, displaying video ads along with text and image ads on your site should lead to greater potential revenue. When you increase the pool of advertisers whose ads are eligible to display on your site, you’ll increase competition for your ad space and drive your earnings up.Keep in mind that Google’s system is optimized to display whichever ad or ads will generate the most revenue for you at all times. When they show a video ad on your site, it’s because they’ve determined that it represents a higher value to you than the corresponding text or image ads that might otherwise run in that same ad space.

Can you play the videos of ads on your site as an Adsense Publisher?

You’re can view the videos of ads on your site by clicking the Play button; clicks on the play button are not counted as clicks in your reports. Google only counts clicks that lead a user to the advertiser’s site, including on the display URL or on the video while it’s playing. So you won’t get penalized for playing the videos on your own sites but make sure you don’t click the url or video while it’s playing.

Remove “Advertise on this site” from Google Ads

Posted by | Uncategorized | 16 Comments

Some of you who are using adsense to monetize your sites may have noticed the new “advertise on this site” text links next to your Google ads. This was automatically added by Google a few months ago and I thought that it really distracted visitors even more then having just the Ads by Goooooooogle text link included. I thought since it was automatically placed on my ads that it was mandatory to display it. But guess what it’s not. You can remove “advertise on this site” very easily in your adsense admin section. Just log in to your adsense account, click “my account” and look towards the bottom of the page. You’ll see a section called “Onsite Advertiser Sign-Up”. Just click edit and opt out of displaying it. By removing the extra “advertise on this site” text link you might just increase your CTR or click through ratio increasing the money you earn. It’s only been a day since I did this so I don’t know if it increases CTR or not but I like not having to display the extra text link. I think adsense ads look way better without it. I would imagine only huge sites that get a ton of traffic would opt to display “advertise on this site” links because more people are willing to advertise on sites that are very very popular.
