With all the Flash fervor going around, finally someone spoke up. That brings me to another point. The amount of Flash-based video hosting sites like Dailymotion, Metacafe, Youtube offering poor quality, low resolution video seem to be a step backward in online video delivery. What happen to showing widely supported formats such as MPEG embedded directly in the page? Most browser can deal with MPEG whether it's Quicktime, Windows Media, or RealPlayer. It looks like the Flash-based videos are accelerating the declide of proprietary pioneering technology like Real media.

Nice article! A few more observations:

As Flash breaks URLs, you can't bookmark specific pages or send them to a user. You'll have to tell them when and where to click in order to navigate through the site until they find the information.

Flash is not platform independent. It's not rare to find a site that uses the latest Flash version and can't be used by a non-Windows OS because there's no compatible plugin available yet.

Flash have big requirements, and so it's not supported in small devices, including PDAs, mobile phones, etc.

Flash also restrict the access of people with disabilities: they can't use most of the accessibility functions of their OS or browser (like huge zoom, text-to-speech (TTS) software, ...)
